Building Better Bots: ScholAIstic Workshop for NUS Business School

On 23 September 2026, AICET’s Pedagogy Team conducted a hands-on ScholAIstic workshop for faculty and staff from NUS Business School. The session was led by Karina Yuen, EdTech Development Specialist at AICET, and introduced participants to the platform through direct, practical use.

Exploring What’s Possible

The workshop was organised around four segments: Explore, Experience, Understand, and Build & Refine. Participants began by looking at examples of ScholAIstic projects already running at NUS Business School, such as AI executives that MBA students interview for an IPO pitch and AI recruiters for practising negotiation across cultures.

Attendees got the chance to try ScholAIstic firsthand, interacting with two versions of a customer interview bot as a student would. Comparing the two showed participants how a bot’s design shapes what students actually have to do during the conversation, and why talking to AI does not automatically lead to learning.

From Prompt to Practice

A key part of the session focused on prompt engineering. Karina explained three characteristics of Large Language Models (LLMs) that matter for bot design: they tend to be overly helpful, they can invent plausible but unsupported details, and they lack real-world context unless it is spelled out. She then introduced a framework for structuring prompts around the bot’s System, Character, and Interaction, and stressed that bots should be tested more than once.

In the final segment, participants put these ideas into practice by adapting a prompt, testing the resulting bot, and setting up AI-generated feedback, with time set aside for them to experiment on their own.

Looking Ahead

The workshop gave NUS Business School participants both a working familiarity with ScholAIstic and the practical foundations to begin designing bots for their own teaching contexts. AICET looks forward to supporting their continued exploration of the platform.
