Ms Karina Yuen, EdTech Development Specialist at AICET, conducted an online workshop for nearly 70 faculty members from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI) in Chile on 26 November 2025. The two-hour session, delivered via Zoom, introduced participants to AICET’s pedagogy-driven approach to designing AI-powered learning experiences, highlighting the central principle that the value of AI in education lies not in technological novelty, but in the pedagogical purpose it serves.
Participants included leaders of ConectIA programme—communities of practice centred on generative artificial intelligence—as well as faculty members actively experimenting with AI in their teaching, and members of the university’s Learning Centre. Throughout the session, participants engaged actively by experimenting with prompts and exploring how the concepts applied to their own disciplinary and institutional contexts.

The workshop centred on a critical reframing: moving beyond AI as a productivity tool to understanding AI as a learning medium. Karina emphasised that while large language models demonstrate impressive conversational fluency, this fluency alone does not ensure educational effectiveness. The session explored why AI-mediated learning requires intentional design. Participants were introduced to systematic frameworks for designing pedagogically sound AI interactions, learning to distinguish between conversational quality and educational impact.
Using AICET’s ScholAIstic platform as a demonstration, Karina showcased examples of AI-powered learning used at NUS, including simulations where students practice authentic skills in realistic contexts before applying them in high-stakes situations. Participants discussed how these design principles could be adapted for their own courses and communities of practice. This workshop represents the first international collaboration between AICET and UAI, reflecting both institutions’ shared commitment to equipping educators with practical tools and conceptual frameworks for meaningful AI integration in higher education. The strong participation and positive feedback from UAI faculty underscore the global relevance of AICET’s pedagogy-first approach to educational AI design.
