On 3rd September 2024, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Dean’s Office held a special Information Session titled “Leveraging AI for Teaching and Learning in FASS.”
This session was designed specifically for faculty members to provide both inspiration and practical insights into how AI can open up new opportunities for teaching and learning in FASS. It also aimed to inform faculty about the wide range of support services available, including cutting-edge tools, workshops, and personalized consultancy services.
The session began with a welcome from Dr. Susan Ang, Chair of the Faculty Teaching Excellence Committee (FTEC).
Mr. Jonathan Sim, Assistant Director (Pedagogy), followed by showcasing various examples of how Generative AI can enhance teaching and learning. He highlighted its potential to stimulate deeper thinking and to further challenge students in their critical thinking.
Associate Professor Ben Leong, Director of AICET, emphasised the Centre’s capability to develop custom AI solutions and provide pedagogical consultancy services to help faculty members incorporate Generative AI into their teaching practices.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, and a concluding message from the FTEC Chair, Dr. Susan Ang, reaffirming FASS’s commitment to adopting technology for innovative teaching and learning.
This initiative was a collaboration between the FASS Dean’s Office, AICET, the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT), and the Faculty Teaching Excellence Committee (FTEC).
