On 8 May 2025, the School of Computing (SoC) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the School of Education at Tsinghua University (THUSE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking the beginning of a promising partnership built on a shared commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation. The MoU was signed by Professor Tan Kian Lee, Dean of SoC, and Professor Zhang Yu, Chair of THUSE.
This MoU reflects a mutual belief in the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change in education. Looking ahead, the AI Centre for Educational Technologies (AICET) at SoC is excited to work closely with THUSE on initiatives such as student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, shared publications, and the co-organisation of academic activities.
The first milestone of this collaboration was the inaugural AI for Education Workshop held on the same afternoon after the MoU signing ceremony. The objective of the workshop is to bring together the local academic community for knowledge sharing, and professional networking. The workshop featured 9 speakers from Singapore universities, THUSE, A*STAR and Stanford University. The speakers (in order of speaking) were:
- Prof Zhang Yu (THUSE)
- A/P Suranga Nanayakkara (NUS)
- Dr Nancy Chen (A*STAR)
- Asst Prof Hari Subramonyam (Stanford)
- Ms Ng Sook Mun (NUS)
- Dr Yu Jifan (THUSE)
- A/P Lo Siaw Ling (SMU)
- Asst Prof Wilson Wen Bin Goh (NTU)
- Dr Joel Lai (NTU)
AICET looks forward to organising similar events in the future to foster a community of like-minded researchers dedicated to harnessing the transformative potential of AI in education.
