Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education visits AICET

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education visited the National University of Singapore (NUS) to benchmark policies and examine practical, classroom-ready models for Digital Convergence Education capacity-building. The visit took place on Monday, 3 November 2025, at COM3 of School of Computing and was hosted by the Director of AI Centre for Educational Technologies, Assoc Prof. Ben Leong. The delegation was led by Lim Chae Deog, Director of the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education, with Kim Kyung Jin, Supervisor, serving as Deputy Leader.

The delegation’s purpose was to explore strategies that support the integration of digital tools in teaching and learning. During the session, Prof. Ben shared NUS’s approach using Codaveri, a platform that support educators in teaching programming and Computer Science. He demonstrated how Codaveri has transformed the assessment of programming assignments by enabling instructors to grade student code directly within Coursemology (a gamified learning management platform), thereby reducing grading workload and streamlining the instructional process without leaving the platform.

Prof. Ben also highlighted Codaveri’s latest “Get Help” feature. This AI capability analyses students’ submitted code and acts as a mentor by identifying issues, stimulating students’ thinking, and encouraging reflection through insights rather than instructions. Crucially, it guides learning without revealing answers, promoting deeper problem-solving and preserving academic integrity.

Discussions centred on how AI-enabled tools such as Codaveri can be integrated into classrooms to support teachers, enhance student learning outcomes, and enable education systems to scale high-quality Computer Science instruction despite staffing constraints. The engagement underscored NUS’s commitment to practical, policy-aligned innovations that advance Digital Convergence Education and provide actionable models for implementation in schools.

The visit concluded on a positive note, with both NUS and the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education affirming strong alignment in goals for Digital Convergence Education. The constructive exchanges and hands-on demonstration provided a foundation for potential future collaboration, particularly in co-developing and piloting AI-enabled teaching and assessment models. Building on this momentum, the parties expressed interest in exploring joint initiatives to accelerate responsible, scalable AI adoption in education.
